What Is an FD Calculator?

A Fixed Deposit (FD) calculator computes the maturity amount and interest earned on a lump-sum deposit placed with a bank for a fixed tenure at a guaranteed interest rate. FDs are one of the most popular savings instruments in India — they offer capital protection, guaranteed returns, and are insured up to ₹5 lakhs by the DICGC.

FD Maturity Calculation

For cumulative FDs (where interest is compounded and paid at maturity): M = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t). For non-cumulative FDs (where interest is paid out periodically): Simple interest = P × r × t per period.

Current FD rates (2025) range from 5.5% to 9.5% p.a. depending on the bank, tenure, and depositor category (senior citizens typically earn 0.25–0.50% extra).

How to Use

  1. Enter your deposit amount (principal).
  2. Enter the annual interest rate offered by your bank.
  3. Select tenure in years and months.
  4. Choose compounding frequency (quarterly is standard for most Indian banks).
  5. Read the maturity amount and total interest earned.

Tax Consideration

FD interest is fully taxable as "Income from Other Sources" at your applicable income tax slab. TDS is deducted at 10% if annual interest exceeds ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens). Plan post-tax returns accordingly.
