What Is Integration?
Integration is the inverse of differentiation — it finds the accumulation of a quantity over an interval, or the anti-derivative of a function. Definite integration computes the area under a curve between two bounds; indefinite integration finds the general anti-derivative family (+ C).
Applications span physics (work, energy, displacement from velocity), probability and statistics (probability from PDF), engineering (signal processing, control theory), and economics (consumer surplus, total cost from marginal cost).
Techniques Supported
- Direct integration of polynomials, trig, exponential, and logarithmic functions
- Integration by substitution (u-substitution)
- Standard integration formulas (∫sin(x)dx = -cos(x) + C, etc.)
- Definite integrals with numerical bounds
How to Use
Enter your function (e.g., x^2 + 3*x or sin(2*x)). For definite integrals, specify the lower and upper bounds. The calculator returns the anti-derivative or numerical result.
